Countdown to Ironman 70.3 World Championships

by Terry Rodham in TRTC News 0 comments

TRTC squad member Ashley Roughton is in his final preparation stages before the showdown of the annual Ironman 70.3 World Championships in South Africa.

After arriving this past Monday to allow for a good acclimatisation period, he has recce’d the course. Of all 3 disciplines. One thing that’s very clear to Ash (and most other athletes) is the value of familiarisation. Although it sounds obvious, knowing the course and the surroundings, as well as getting a feel for the atmosphere, is a critical part of race preparation.

Ash tells me that the tension is gradually building in the Port Elizabeth, along with his nerves. Three thousand athletes, the best of the best, are slowly descending onto what will be a monumental stage on both Saturday and Sunday.

Over the next few days, Ash will be focusing his body and mind. He’ll start to climb into his own little bubble whilst taking in and enjoying the occasion.

2 years in the making of such an incredible journey and dream – time to dance on the big stage Ash! We’re all rooting for you!!

Go well in South Africa Ash 🏊🏻🚴🏃‍♂️💨
